Job Description

The Vice President of Revenue Cycle is a new position spurred by system growth and reports to Greg Schaack, CFO of SJ/C. This individual manages processes and provides guidance, direction and support to encompass all aspects of the revenue cycle, as depicted below, for St. Joseph’s Hospital and Candler Hospital; and specifically directs and oversees the management of Patient Access (Pre-Service Center and Patient Registration), Patient Financial Services (Revenue Integrity, Patient Accounting and Payment Resolution) and Health Information Management (Clinical Documentation Improvement, Coding, Transcription and Medical Records Operations). The VP/Revenue Cycle will also be directly responsible for the revenue cycle functions for SJC Home Health, consisting of two Medicare-certified home health agencies. Additionally, this position will have an indirect “consulting” relationship with the SJC Medical Group central billing office. The VP/Revenue Cycle will build and deploy a vision and strategy for the management of revenue cycle transactions for the SJ/C acute care hospitals and home health agencies. He/she will develop strategic plans and ongoing performance improvement initiatives to optimize successful account adjudication, exceptional collections, and high customer service throughout the revenue cycle. This executive will execute a vision, optimize processes, deliver quality services and reports, manage cash collections, deploy technology, and ensure support for the community, while complying with related regulations. This position effectively communicates and develops/maintains relationships with all third-party payers. The VP/Revenue Cycle establishes policies and procedures to enhance all facets of revenue cycle operations with the goal of improving net revenue and cash flow through optimal management of patient receivables. He/she is also responsible for developing department strategic plans, formulating budgets, managing special projects, interpreting policy, and making timely decisions that directly impact the organization’s financial viability. The VP/Revenue Cycle will oversee and lead the revenue cycle team through coaching, mentoring and developing target performance measures and holding staff responsible/accountable for achieving set targets. He/she will build a collaborative, high-performing culture and cohesive team within the revenue cycle functions. This executive will provide leadership to the staff and establish a strong sense of esprit de corps toward the realization of the goals. The VP/Revenue Cycle will directly supervise the following positions: • Director of Patient Access • Director of Patient Financial Services • Director of HIM • Home Health Business Office Manager

Competencies / Skills

• BS/BA in accounting, finance or a related field; MBA in business or health related field is preferred. • A minimum 10 years of progressively responsible revenue cycle leadership, including director level experience in a complex healthcare organization. • Working knowledge of healthcare computerized financial systems; Meditech experience is preferred. • Extensive knowledge of, experience in and thorough understanding of the entire revenue cycle. Ability to plan and direct activities within the revenue cycle from account creation through account resolution. • Understanding of the financial impact that the revenue cycle functions have on net patient service revenue, cash flow, and accounts receivable valuations for financial statements. • A hands-on approach to management with the ability to be highly analytical both at a broad strategic level to see the big picture, while remaining attentive to detail at the operational level. • Analytic and decisive decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals. Ability to coach, mentor and drive results through others. • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct and control broad functional areas. Ability to collaborate, influence, project confidence and identify departmental needs, and convincingly present financial information, analysis and recommendations. • Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills to include best practice knowledge on key performance indicators, as well as development of supporting analyses and trends; process and data driven. • Strong inter-personal, team building and organizational skills to lead and develop staff and work collaboratively with other departments on all phases of the revenue cycle with the ability to excel in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. • A strong leader and team player who has an approachable demeanor and a collaborative style; a politically-savvy leader who can establish trust and confidence quickly with a wide range of constituents.
