Job Description


The Physician Practice Administrator (PPA) reports to Brian Gibbons, the Sunnyside Hospital CEO and is responsible for providing leadership, management and improvement to all hospital affiliated physician practices. The PPA will develop and update long and short-range strategic plans that support the goals of all hospital affiliated practices. Sunnyside has 14 providers including physicians and mid-levels at 8 sites. There are 5 rural health clinics, 2 urgi-care centers and a student health clinic. Each site has a clinical care coordinator. The PPA also coordinates the Diabetes Center, the Tele-Health Center and the ACO. Some of the clinics are in the Yakima and Toppenish areas and with the acquisition of the two new hospitals there will be a reshuffling of clinic site responsibilities.


Main Purpose


Sunnyside Community Hospital (SCH) is a state of the art rural hospital located in the wine country of Washington State. The hospital serves 80,000 people located between Yakima and Tri-Cities. The hospital is a private, non-profit facility owned by the Sunnyside Community Hospital Association. An unpaid board of trustees governs the hospital. Management services are provided by HealthTechS3. The hospital is an affiliate of Regional Health System. The hospital operates 13 clinics, including a series of primary care clinics, a free standing Urgent Care Clinic, five provider-based specialty clinics in the communities of Yakima, Grandview, Prosser and Sunnyside, Washington and a newly acquired surgery center. The hospital offers Emergency Care, Intensive Care, Family Birthing Center, complete surgical services including neurosurgery and plastic surgery, state-of-the-art imaging including 3D mammography, interventional cardiology, physical therapy, audiology, speech therapy and occupational therapy. The hospital is also a Level 1 Cardiac Center designated by the Washington State Department of Health. SCH has also acquired Yakima Ambulatory Surgical Center in Yakima, Washington.

Competencies / Skills


• A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field with emphasis on Healthcare Administration is required. An MHA or MBA is also preferred. • Five years of experience in practice management, preferably in a multi-location setting including 3 years of management experience. Knowledge of operating policies and procedures of a medical practice • Working knowledge of healthcare financial management, specifically physician practice reimbursement, billing and collections, accounts receivable management, operations improvement and practice growth. • Knowledge of HIPPA requirements, electronic billing and other EHR concepts. • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports for senior management and physicians.
